Special works during construction of the zagorsk pumped-storage station (PSS) were carried out by the Zagorsk section of the Moscow specialized administration of the All-Union Association for Special Hydrotechcical Works (Gidrospetsstroi). The special works began in 1976, almost from the start of the general construction works. Because the geological and hydrogeological conditions at the construction site were relatively complex, numer- Ous special works were planned and executed, including pile works during construction of industrial and civil objects; Pile works when constructing the base of the penstocks; groundwater lowering works; other works of insignificant Volumes: sealing the joints of penstocks, construction of vertical drains, construction of sheet-pile diaphragms in the Abutments to the powerhouse and water intake, and grouting of cavities in the scroll casings of the units.
