TTHE INSPIRATION FOR thisr history article was supplied by Thomasr J. Blalock, a frequent contributor ofr interesting and informative historyr articles to these pages. Recently, Tomr sent me a photocopy of p. 459 of the 2r March 1929 issue of Electrical World.r One of a number of short entries underr “Briefer News” on the page was “Newr York Edison Makes Models of Oldr Pearl Street Station.” The piece discussedr three working scale modelsr of Thomas Alva Edison’s pioneeringr Pearl Street, Manhattan, central generatingr station. The models were builtr in the mechanical construction shopsr of the New York Edison Company, ar direct predecessor of the present Consolidatedr Edison Company of Newr York (Con Edison). In the margin ofr the photocopy, Tom wrote the followingr note: “Carl, I wonder if any ofr these still exist?” Thus began my questr to locate any survivors of the threer models built in the late 1920s.
