A pulse-charged coaxial transmission line test stand was developed to evaluate the loss and saturation characteristics of the magnetic core material Vitroperm 500Z under square-pulse excitation (SPE) conditions. The test stand was developed to generate a 100 kV square pulse that was discharged into the primary winding of a Vitroperm magnetic core load. The magnetization rates achieved ranged from 5 to 50 T/μs, and saturation times ranged from 40 to 100 ns. The design of the SPE test stand is discussed, and experimental results for the Vitroperm core material are presented.
