摘要

Some useful services in cellular radio networks and also a classnof handover algorithms require knowledge of the present position andnvelocity of mobiles. This paper deals with a method to track mobiles bynon-line monitoring of field strength data of surrounding base stationsnat successive time points. Such data is available in present globalnsystem for mobile communication (GSM) systems each 0.48 s and also inncode-division multiple-access (CDMA) systems for transmission control.nBecause of strong random fluctuations of the signals, appropriatensmoothing is the key point of the procedure. We develop a locally linearnprediction model of successive positions as a basis for Kalmannfiltering. This approach turns out to be extremely successful, achievingnaverage mislocations of 70 m in simulated test runs. Further improvementnis possible by using external geographical information
