In 2015, the Paris Agreement on climate change defined important steps to mitigate global warming by setting ambitious goals. These include holding the increase in the global average temperature to well below 2℃ above pre-industrial levels and pursuing efforts to limit the temperature increase to 1.5℃ above pre-industrial levels, reaching peaking of global greenhouse house emissions as soon as possible and achieving a balance between anthropogenic emissions by sources and removal of greenhouse gases by sinks in the second half of the century.
