There's no magic trick to ensure a smooth flight. A little planning mixed with persistent requests for the routing you want, however, can swing the odds in your favor. The spotlight outside my house shows snowflakes racing sideways and perpetually changing snowdrifts. For all the days humming along in light winds when my vocation seems more like recreation, nights like these more than make up for them. Tonight is bound to be turbulent. It's what nervous fliers hate most (and even veteran passengers curse when their $8 vodka tonic gets spilled), and makes the pilot's job that much harder.
