Braking of rolling stock is essential for its control. Conventional electric locomotives are provided with Rheostatic braking. Energy efficiency in conventional loco (Tap changer based) may be improved by introducing the regenerative braking. This paper discusses the existing braking arrangement of conventional loco (WAG-7 locomotive) and proposes the ways to introduce regenerative braking to these locomotives for achieving energy efficiency.
