Twenty years ago, when Mikel Harry and his peers chose to take their private sector Six Sigma methodologies public, I think they expected to impact the process improvement world differently than they have. Yes, there have been significant improvements, but some significant unintended consequences have resulted.Most notably, I feel that the misapplication of Six Sigma strategies has led to a significant decline in product/service quality and workforce engagement. Don't just take my word; give the current level of service and product value you receive some thought. Are your internal and external customers giving you better or worse service? Are the products you buy providing more or less value?
