摘要

Business as usual suddenly sounds very attractive, doesn't it? But, the COVID-19 pandemic has changed everything. The urgent need for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) has unleashed both opportunities and risks for IFAI member companies and the textile industry at large. Every day I receive messages from companies that are actively figuring out what it means to "pivot" and seize upon opportunities to preserve their original businesses or make PPE for the first time; in some case, businesses are trying to do both. The textile industry has come a long way since early March, when people still headed out to work each morning. Business closures have impacted our lives in stunning ways. The Buzz Aldrin quote at the top of the page struck me, because textile businesses are having to move ahead with purpose, despite risks. Many textile workers must go to their shops to fulfill work orders, whether they are manufacturers of medical-related end products, suppliers of input materials or "newbies" who are learning to make PPE.
