After last winter's persistent "polar vortex," and now approaching the all-time wettest June on record, I have been distracting myself from weather forecasts with business forecasts-which aren't exactly divorced from weather, but usually focus on things like technology and marketing instead of rising rivers and damp basements. Business experts are discussing workforce issues: hard-to-find talent, generational conflicts and cultural quagmires as leaders battle outdated but entrenched operations. Rebranding, word-of-mouth advertising and a lack of real innovation are reported as significant barriers to growth. Huge and growing markets like health care offer opportunities, but the sluggish economy still scares away investment.
