Architectural textiles will be used extensively at the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in the Beijing National Stadium, according to the latest issue of Technical Textile Markets from Textiles Intelligence Ltd. Inside the stadium, approximately 40,000 square meters (430,000 square feet) of single-ply ethylene tetrafluoroethylene (EFTE) sheeting will cover and protect a 40,000-ton steel "bird's nest" structure. Fifty thousand square meters of polytetrafluoroethylene (PFTE)-coated glass fabric will be installed inside the stadium to ensure good acoustics.
