With its most recent planned acquisition, Hewlett Packard (HP), Palo Alto, Calif., reaches into the market consisting of sign shop franchises, quick printers and other small- to mid-size sign and screen-printing businesses. MacDermid ColorSpan, Min-netonka, Minn., is a leading supplier of UV-curable inkjet printers to these businesses, and HP expects the combination of skills will "achieve tremendous synergies with our complementary wide-format platforms," says Vyomesh Jfoshi, executive vice president of HP's Imaging and Printing Group. In particular, HP plans to provide lower-cost platforms and U V technologies to print services providers expanding into outdoor applications and industrial workloads.
