Throughout the history of the United States, the West has occupied a unique spot in the country's sense of national identity: It is the place of possibility and imagination. Think of the bucolic and majestic representations of a Western landscape in a painting by Bierstadt or Remmington. Or, to cite a contemporary example, think of Hollywood Westerns in their mid-century heyday. In many ways, the nation sees in the West reflections of its national identity. It is not surprising that the tent and fabric structure industry in the West has evolved in accordance with this perception. Tourism, resorts and events that celebrate the region's natural beauty are mainstays of this market. In a few major urban areas, corporate events, many of which are connected to the entertainment industry, provide opportunities for tent manufacture and rental. This is the fourth and final article in a series devoted to regional rental markets. Perhaps more than the other regions described in this series, the western market encompasses a wide geographical area with vastly different climates and terrain types. Some regions, like the Northwest, experience the same climactic limitations as many other regions of the country. Tent rental companies in the Southwest, however, can work on installations while the rest of the country weathers the cold and snowy winter months.
