During processing, manufacturing, and handling of raw bulk materials the inherent nature of fuel, heat, and oxidants cannot be entirely eliminated from the fire triangle. As a result, Level 3 primary dust explosions in process equipment are omnipresent. Engineering controls such as explosion venting, deflagration suppression and isolation systems minimise severity of consequence, preserve life safety of personnel not in the immediate vicinity of a Level 3 event, and maintain mission continuity and structural integrity of a facility Examples of primary explosions include deflagrations in dryers dust collectors pulverizers and hammermills.
