Experiencing Broadband Society is the second volume of a new book series entitled 'Participation in Broadband Society' which is being published by Peter Lang. Gebhardt et al. have complied this book, which consists of several research papers, but also literature reviews and conceptual studies. The papers examine the use of common broadband technologies from numerous perspectives with the aim of clarifying die ways in which people utilize and experience broadband technologies in dieir everyday lives. Van Lier and Pierson open the first part of the book, which concerns the use and the practices associated with new media. The authors explore the ways in which children in Belgium have brought an online community to life in an offline context by sharing experiences with their friends in die local area who arc also active in the same online community. Galan, Legal and Senar bring out a completely different approach to user experience. Their chapter comprises a report of two case studies in which user-centric information and communication technologies (ICTs) arc utilized in order to overcome territorial isolation in remote locations in Argentina. The study by Galan et al. contributes to the book by elaborating on the role of non-governmental organizations in the broadband society and also by bringing out the voice of the developing world.
