Thales once quipped, 'The most difficult thing in life is to know yourself. This difficulty undoubtedly stems from numerous factors, which impact identity formation and maintenance. If we add into this melee the confounding variable of information technology (IT), then a clear understanding of any identification process appears almost a fruitless endeavor. In her text Digital Diasporas: Identity and Transnational Engagement, author Dr Jennifer M. Brinkerhoff tackles both the aforementioned issues.
