Internet's value for the society has far exceeded its utility as a technical innovation that facilitates information exchange. It constitutes another dimension of the human society, sometimes referred to as the 'Fifth Estate' (Dutton, 2009) that has made huge impacts on our everyday lives. Social scientists have studied the economic, political, and cultural implications of the Internet for the past few decades, inducing a thriving research field - Internet Studies. Internet Studies is multidisciplinary in nature, since different perspectives - historical, mathematical, critical, computational, etc. - can all be deployed to study the Internet as a research object. Therefore, inevitably, it is getting increasingly difficult for scholars to formulate a general overview of the rising field, which calls for a book that can combine state-of-the-art research with a multidisciplinary touch. The book reviewed here, Society & the Internet, serves well for this purpose.
