Immediately in the introduction, editors Benoit Godin and Dominique Vinck observe that the study of innovation has become an industry, one that produces an abundance of literature and texts. Yet, curiously, the actual scholarship only reflects certain disciplines such as management, economics, science policy, sociology, and psychology (p. 1). Therein lies the problem of the many different theories, frameworks, models, and narratives of innovation - it has become a competitive site for establishing legitimacy and authority, one that is marked by boundary work (Gieryn, 1983) and uncritical reflection. Across the various chapters, Critical studies of innovation take the perspective of science and technology studies (STS), with recurring echoes of democratic representation, sociotechnical social order, credibility, and expertise. These themes are punctuated with references to canonical work by Bruno Latour, Michel Cal-lon, and Sheila Jasanoff.
