Ubiquitous computing, mobile technologies, social media, and locative media have become integral parts of our lives. They impact our social activities and work practices, helping us to both understand and shape our cultures and the ways in which we can engage as citizens. From Social Butterfly to Engaged Citizen explores these developments through the perspective of the emerging field of urban informatics, demonstrating the vitality of the field, as well as the range of theory, research methodologies, and applications employed. Above all, however, it focuses on the opportunities that technology provides for engagement, be that with communities or with physical or virtual spaces.
