Back-way back-in the last century, when I attended library school, the profession was abuzz about a recent study conducted by the federal government. In the midst of a sci-tech revolution inspired by world crises and open access to the federal checkbook, someone had decided to investigate how the information created by this revolution would reach the people who could use it. Wait a minute! Wait a minute! Through the mists of the past, a name is emerging from the murk of memory-Weinberg! It was the Weinberg Report. Hmm. I may even recall Weinberg's first name-Caspar? I'm not sure of that, but maybe. But how can I ever hope to find a report from so long ago with nothing but a nickname? Well, whom do we ask first for everything but the Great God Google? And there it is, the first item on a list that includes other Weinberg reports for vastly different topics. It's "Science, Government, and Information: The Responsibilities of the Technical Community and the Government in the Transfer of Information," from the President's Science Advisory Committee Panel on Science Information, which was chaired by Al-vin M.
