It aims to help libraries and information services deal with threats to privacy, such as mass government surveillance and commercial user data collection. Also discussed are current challenges to the protection of user privacy, relevant international statements about privacy as a right, related IFLA policies, and recommendations to libraries and information services about how to advocate for privacy protection and to protect user privacy in libraries.
