Sweltering summer sun welcomed the multinational attendees to VALA2014, the 17th biennial conference and exhibition held Feb. 3-6 in Melbourne, Australia. The 1,400-plus delegates were treated to a mix of topics including Big Data, massive open online courses (MOOCs), ebooks, and cloud computing. Almost 90 exhibitors displayed their wares in the spacious exhibit room and offered 48 vendor product presentations. In one of these presentations, John Langton of Thomson Reuters described how the company is simplifying discovery via its Web of Science platform and detailed a new collaboration it has developed with Google Scholar.
