摘要

BiblioCommons began as a nonprofit youth literacy initiative with the goal of building a peer-to-peer social platform that would foster a love of reading. According to Beth Jefferson, cofounder and CEO, it was easy to build that technology, but getting kids interested in participating was another story. BiblioCommons found that 75% to 80% of the page views on a public library's website are from the catalog; because attention is focused there, "that's where we decided we had to put the conversation," she says. Now, BiblioCommons partners with public libraries across the U.S., Canada, New Zealand, and Australia to offer a subscription-based SaaS catalog environment that relies on a single codebase. This allows for feature and functionality sharing across libraries, which facilitates quick implementation of new products. Each library can configure the software to use its own branding and website design, as well as host any of its existing software.
