Altmetrics. It's a new way to measure the impact and distribution of academic research, and it has quickly become the focus of a raging controversy. There's a reason for the debate: Altmetrics are being touted as a faster, fairer, and potentially more relevant way to assess an adjunct professor's suitability for being granted tenure.
