You can blame it on tablets, the economy, or the fact that five conglomerates now control nearly 80% of textbooks in the U.S. You could even blame it on Apple's plot to upend the textbook market as it did with the music industry, or on foundations, such as The Saylor Foundation, which recently announced the winners of its open textbook contest with funding slated for another round.
