Two industry giants stood tall, ready for the showdown of the century at the 30th Annual Charleston Conference in November. Perhaps the only showdown that gained more attention was the gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tbmbstone, Arizona Territory, in 1881. The face-offbetween EBSCO Discovery Service (EDS) and Serials Solutions' Summon was billed as the next great battle between two industry giants offering search discovery services to libraries. It all started as an exchange of letters to The Charleston Advisor (S.C.) between Tim Collins, president of EBSCO Publishing, and Stan Sorensen, vice president of product management and marketing at Serials Solutions, regarding Jane Burke's comments about EDS. The conversation escalated into a challenge between the two companies to meet anywhere, anytime to settle the issue.
