For the past 4 years, one of the top highlights of the Search Engine Meeting was the presentation of the Everett Brenner Award for the best paper at the conference. This year's winner was David Milward, chief technology officer of the U.K.-based Linguamatics, for his paper "From Document Search to Knowledge Discovery: Changing the Paradigm."rnHis work explored the ways in which agile text mining can provide actual answers instead of simply providing documents for decision makers. By using Natural Language Processing to discover facts and relationships from freerntext for leveraging scientific knowledge, users can move beyond search to automated profiling and hypothesis generation from scores of real-time documents.
