I thought this continuation of how our book publishing division came into existence deserved its own preface. Last issue, I covered the basic history of the book department, which was officially launched with the purchase of the Mecklermedia line of library science books in 1994. Until that time, books had been published sporadically at best; most of the titles were conference proceedings.
