The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that Douglas C. Sickerrnhas been named its chief technologist. In this role, he will be in the Office of Strategic Planning and Policy Analysis and will advise the FCC on technological issues.rnCurrently, Sicker is associate professor in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Colorado-Boulder, with a joint appointment in the Interdisciplinary Telecommunications Program. Prior to this, he was director of global architecture at Level 3 Communications. Before that, he was chief of the Network Technology Division at the FCC. He has also served on the Network Reliability and Interoperability Council steering committee. Sicker is also active in several associations, including IEEE and the Internet Society.
