E.J. Josey, past president of ALA and professor emeritus at the Library and Information Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh, died in July in Washington, N.C. He was 85.rnHe was the first black man to be elected to the presidency at ALA. In the 1960s, he was active in the civil rights movement as a youth advisor of the Savannah State College NAACP Chapter and as a member of the executive committee of NAACP (Savannah, Ga., branch).
