In August, the European Commission (EC) published a report reviewing the last 5 years of EU communications policy and outlining the challenges for the future moving toward a digital Europe. "Europe's Digital Competitiveness Report 2009" revealsrnthat 56% of Europeans now use the internet daily and that 80% of them have a high-speed network. There are also now more mobile phone subscriptions than European citizens; Europe also has a 119% take-up rate for mobile phone subscriptions compared to about 80% in Japan and the U.S.
