I FLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) chose Libraries Create Futures: Building on Cultural Heritage as the theme of its 75th World Library and Information Con-gress(WLIC), which was held in late August in Milan, Italy. Although many of the lo-cal Milanese shops and businesses were closed for August holidays, nearly 4,000 attendees from more than 135 countries managed to fill the space. One social event, a dinner at restaurants around the duomo (cathedral) offering the same set meal, followed by a concert of classical music, probably could not have happened if it wasn't August and most Milanese hadn't left the city.
