Many years ago (OK, OK, several decades ago), I heard a techie expert use an analogy that I have never forgotten as he explained a data-handling process. (It was actually packet switching, as I recall. Now there's a blast from the past.)rnHe compared the tasks involved in a data-handling process to moving 50 tons with a 25-ton pickup truck. If you had 50 tons of pebbles, it's no problem. You can just make two trips. However, if you had a 50-ton slab of stone, you had a problem. On the other hand, if you had a jack-hammer in the back of that pickup truck, maybe that could fix the problem.
