As newspapers struggle to stay relevant in a digital world, a new type of news site has emerged that is designed to cover niche community news on a very focused basis.rnThese new "hyperlocal" news sites tend to focus on a community in a tight geographic area. Most are run on a shoe-rnstring and are looking for new funding ideas, and a number of them use volunteer reporters and user-generated content, raising some interesting questions about journalistic oversight and credibility. Nevertheless, some observers feel that hyperlocal sites could represent a new profitable business model for journalism.
