In this era of collaboration and digital accessibility, the fine line between sharing and stealing has become downright hazy for content users. Plagiarism, piracy, and infringement are tipping the scales with the delicate balance of copyright, fair use, and licensing. That's why about 200 people gathered May 1 at the Union League Club in New York City for the debut of OnCopyright, the first all-day symposium dealing with the topic from Copyright Clearance Center (CCC). On-Copyright 2008 was the brainchild of Bill Burger, vice president of marketing, who led the charge in organizing and delivering a forum to raise awareness of copyright in today's digital world. "The topic seemed to strike a cord with people," says Burger. "I'm very pleased with the feedback we've received about the symposium and the speakers so far." He says the CCC wasn't looking for a huge turnout, but instead "for the quality of the conversation." The goal for the CCC was "connected with the vision of raising our own perceptions, creating a platform for debate and discussion."
