While one historical scientific collection added thousands of new digitized pages in April, another new project was launched. The key factors in both of these preservation efforts involved international collaboration and intercul-tural cooperation. Millions visited Darwin Online in April as a special collection of Charles Darwin's private papers were added to an online collection of the scientist's works. Volume was so heavy that Darwin Online was disabled for a brief time after the BBC and the press announced that the largest collection of Darwin's papers had been added. The extra publicity also encouraged visitors to download 14,000 copies of the first edition of Origin of Species in a single day.
