This year, the information industry has been a lively platform for M&As. Some companies have opened their doors to expansion; others have closed theirs for good. In these changing economic times, the timing is right to take a closer look at some of the key players that continue to grow and to evolve in response to-and sometimes, in spite of-the marketplace. That's why we are focusing on ProQuest in this issue, to give read- ers a chance to hear what kind of impact its recent acquisitions have had on the company and the scope of its ongoing strategies for the months and years to come. We've teamed the feature with a timeline that spans a provocative range of industry developments and changes, along with a first-person account from Thomas Bauer, who single-handedly weathered a series of corporate changes and has a stack of the business cards to prove it.
