This fall, Penn State University Libraries and the English department began a yearlong pilot project with student groups using the Sony Reader Digital Book, a portable electronic reading device that can hold books, audio files, and other downloaded materials (see NewsMakers, IT, October 2008). At press time, Sony announced its new PRS-700 Reader. It has a touchscreen, a built-in light, a virtual keyboard, expanded memory, and faster screen refreshes. When it becomes available sometime in November, it will cost about $100 more than the previous model, retailing for $399.99.
