摘要

The multimedia resume still hasn't quite caught on. Of course, online resumes that include video offer obvious benefits for motivational speakers, trainers, models, actors, and others who want potential employers to see their performances. But some job seekers shouldn't let employers see them in action. Consider Yale University student Aleksey Vayner's infamous "Impossible Is Nothing" video resume. Many viewers found it unintentionally hilarious, and it became an internet phenomenon because Vayner gives a rambling discourse on how to achieve goals, intercut with scenes of him bench-pressing weights, playing tennis, ballroom dancing, and karate-chopping bricks. But even if you make a good video resume, some companies won't look at it. Human resource managers don't want to spend hours watching videos when they can spend minutes glancing at text. And they worry that if they accept multimedia from the masses, they could face charges of gender, race, or age discrimination from people they don't hire. A survey this year by the staffing agency Robert Half International found that only 24% of the nation's 1,000 largest companies accept video resumes.
