The virtual shelves of Elsevier's ScienceDirect are brimming with new titles as more than 4,000 ebooks have been added to the collection."We [were] right on schedule for the official launch in September, just in time for the start of the academic season," said Joep Verheggen, director of ScienceDirect, who added that customer interest has been "even better than we expected." "Real books on the shelves disappear for a week or two at a time," he said. "Now, with ebooks, there is no barrier to access." What this represents is added value to the research community, he said, adding that researchers can now use a single platform for their search needs. The ebooks are all recent titles (dating from 1995) in 18 subject areas; ebooks will also be added from renowned imprints including Pergamon and Academic Press.
