The sponsoring organization and registry operator for .asia is Dot-Asia Organisation, a nonprofit company based in Hong Kong. DotAsia was created solely with the mission to sponsor and promote the new generic top-level domain (gTLD); it's the second geographic regional domain to be introduced following the launch of .eu in 2006. DotAsia believes that a pan-Asia and Asia Pacific Internet community exists and needs representation. Otherwise, Asian businesses can only express a local identity using individual country code TLDs (ccTLDs), such as .cn or .jp.
