December is traditionally a time to review the past year's accomplishments. However, for this column, I thought it would be interesting to provide some statistics on the conferences held during the past 2 years. All of this data has been taken from the database that produces the ITI conference calendar (www.infotoday .com/calendar.shtml). After a conference has passed, the information is archived and remains available for studies such as this. For this study, I looked at the 1,266 conferences with starting dates between Jan. 1, 2005, and Dec. 18, 2007.rnIf you think that the number of conferences is increasing, you are correct. Figure 1 shows the number of conferences held each month by start date. The annual number of conferences actually grew from 242 in 2005 to 445 in 2006; so far in 2007, 579 conferences have been announced. From 2006 to 2007, the number of conferences grew by 30 percent, and this growth shows no sign of stopping. October 2007 had 85 conferences, the most so far.
