Storing all the world's published information in a single repository may seem a bit farfetched to some or something right out of the pages of a Bradbury-esque science fiction novel to others. But for Narayanaswamy Balakrishnan, professor at the department of aerospace engineering and the Supercomputer Education Research Centre at the India Institute of Science (IISc), it's a realistic and achievable goal. Balakrishnan was a keynoter at the 13th VALA Biennial Conference and Exhibition in early February in Melbourne, Australia. His talk, Universal Digital Library: Connecting Users to Digital Contents, was about his work on a nationwide digital library in India and his visions of ultimate expansion to a global version.
