Maybe I'm overreacting, but when I heard this summer that Pluto was no longer regarded as our ninth planet, I started thinking. There are all kinds of estimates about the speed at which our collective information doubles and doubles ... and doubles. In fact, at a recent development conference sponsored by UNESCO, one participant made an ironic comment: "The amount of scientific knowledge doubles every fifteen years, and the amount of information every three months, whereas wisdom has barely changed in 3,000 years" (http:// www.barcelona2004.org/eng/banco_del_conocimiento/documentos/ficha.cfm?IdDoc=71).
