The paper represents results of long-term studies of riverine benthic fauna of Upper and Middle Kama River basins, a region with highly heterogeneous hydrologic conditions. The role of chironomid larvae in rheophilic benthic communities is assessed. Quantitative parameters of typical chironomid complexes are provided.
