It is shown that both isothermal and nonisothermal heat treatments of an equimolar mixture of anhydrous calcium monohydrogen phosphate and calcium carbonate lead to decomposition of these compounds to calcium pyrophosphate and calcium oxide, respectively. Above 880℃, these intermediates react to form trical-cium phosphate, oxyapatite, and tetracalcium phosphate. The detailed nature of the chemical and phase transformations involved is discussed.
