A new study warned that proposed and planned gas-fired power plants in the PJM Interconnection region face a daunting array of challenges, citing a confluence of investment risk factors that raise stranded asset concerns. “This is clearly a case of buyer (or financer) beware: the headwinds facing new PJM gas plants are growing stronger and stronger,” Bryndis Woods, a study co-author and researcher at the Applied Economics Clinic, said in an Oct. 5 statement. The joint study was produced in cooperation with the Institute for Energy Economics and Financial Analysis.
