The Navy and Air Force have launched an effort to eliminate redundancy in cybersecurity testing, assessment and documentation. In a Sept. 14 memo, Navy Chief Information Officer Aaron Weis and Air Force Chief Information Officer Lauren Knausenberger agreed to cybersecurity reciprocity. "Accepting Cybersecurity reciprocity accelerates approval timelines and eliminates redundant test, assessment and documentation efforts," the memo states. The memo states that in order to provide warfighting capability in an agile, secure way, the services must work together and determine if systems being assessed have already been assessed and tested."Achieving this balance requires that scarce security resources be spent on due diligence and analysis rather than redundant and unnecessary testing or bureaucratic documentation," the memo states.
