FORT WORTH, TX- AgustaWestland chose the toned-down, budget-conscious gathering of the Army Aviation Association of America last week to officially lift the curtain on its contender for the Army's Armed Aerial Scout helicopter program. Unveiling the AW 169 AAS military helicopter- absent its rotorblades - on the showroom floor April 11, R. Scott Rettig, AgustaWestland North America's CEO, said, "We believe it sets the new standard for armed reconnaissance helicopters." The aircraft has two enhanced PW210A engines that can operate in hot and high conditions and "advanced technology embedded into an efficiency main rotor system," according to an April 11 company statement "With a comprehensive set of available mission equipment, the AW169 AAS is uniquely adaptable to support all U.S. Army aviation armed aerial scout mission requirements cost effectively making it the prerequisite to defense readiness," it adds.
