Defense Department efforts to modernize key business systems and processes have reached the slowest pace in four years because questions surrounding the responsibilities of senior DOD and service management officers are unclear, according to a new Government Accountability Office report.rnBusiness systems, which process everything from logistics information to financial data and budget planning figures, are seen as critical to the Pentagon's overall business transformation efforts. GAO considers the effort a high-risk project.rn"Pending decisions" surrounding the roles, responsibilities, authorities and relationship among key senior leadership positions are to blame for the slowdown in business systems modernization activities during the past year, auditors write in their annual report on DOD business systems, released May 18.
